This game is great on it's own, but with HOTAS controller and VR Goggles - it's sooooo amazing and breathtaking.
The feelings when leaving space station or when seeing lights when flying near the bright stars - it's hard to find proper words of how great the experience it is.
This game is remake of the good old games, as Elite & Frontier, games where one could explore the space (and the galaxy is really vast place), fight (for bounty rewards and for self-defence) and trade.
What is new is the multiplayer factor - one can meet, chat and cooperate with other pilots (players). Walking/driving on planets surfaces is also something new - and it comes with 'Odyssey' expansion (DLC).
In Elite: Dangerous, one can mine for resources as well.

HOTAS
Acronym HOTAS means: 'Hands on Throttle and Stick'.
HOTAS devices are controllers similar to joysticks, especially made for flying simulation games.
Using HOTAS allows for both easier & finer control over the starship, and in skilled hands - it's great advantage in combat when facing players that use traditional mouse and keyboard controls.
VR Goggles.
... i've used Meta Quest 2 VR Goggles (formerly named: 'Oculus Quest 2'), and feelings experienced when flying in the spaceship went up through the roof. ;)
Using head movements (tracked by VR Goggles) not only allows one to easily see what's around inside and outside of the ship, but also helps with controlling starship - easier to access more or less rarely used ship systems as navigation, transactions, comms or inventory of ship's cargo for example. Just look at system and use HOTAS controls (or keyboard/mouse) to interact.
... too bad that walking on planets (after exitting the ship) doesn't offer such great experiences as when flying.
Walking on planets is not bad, do not get me wrong - it's just average FPS (First Person Shooter) experience, which is far less than when flying in the spaceship.
Personally, when landed on planet i prefer to take off VR Goggles and use monitor, mouse & keyboard. More convenient than wearing rather heavy and cumbersome Goggles. HOTAS controller is not suitable for driving & walking on planets as well.
